Published on August 12, 2021

CALI, Colombia (August 12, 2021) — TaskUs, the leading global technology-enabled service provider for high-growth technology companies and which recently expanded to Cali, is inviting individuals to participate in its free virtual language program.

Called the “The Art of Fluency: the TaskUs Language Academy,” the program seeks to strengthen Caleños’ bilingual skills and increase their chances of joining the customer service and care industry. The academy is open to those interested in improving their command of English.

“TaskUs is committed to fostering bilingualism in Cali and the Valle del Cauca region. We are glad to provide the community with the needed training to be proficient in English and be job-ready,” said Guillermo Ulloa, TaskUs Vice President of Operations in Colombia.

Program Details

Geared toward exceptional customer service, the program includes written and spoken English lessons. Much attention is paid to grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, tone, and other aspects of conversational communication, such as active listening, comprehension, and establishing trust and empathy.

A program graduate and current TaskUs teammate, Alejandra Morales, shared, “TaskUs’s Language Academy is different from the other programs I’ve joined. It boosted my confidence and fluency in conversing in English. While other programs provide the necessary technical skills like pronunciation and grammar, TaskUs goes beyond by teaching effective communication and related soft skills.”

The language program is not only free but also held virtually, allowing participants to take the classes from the safety and comfort of their homes.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday for three weeks and are conducted on a unique virtual platform from which participants can access modules and activities.

“The Language Academy is a great opportunity for those who have a desire for Continuous Self-improvement, a core value of TaskUs. With classes held exclusively in English, I was more motivated to learn while having a great time with fellow participants,” said Natalia Ramos, another program graduate and now TaskUs employee.

TaskUs teammate Santiago Martínez added, “Not only did it give me the opportunity to improve my English and communication skills, but it also allowed me to work in a company that cares about its employees. This is an industry that offers stability, flexibility, and free training.”

The program has been running since June, and is now on its fourth batch of participants. Those interested must register online via this link, where more information will be available upon registration, including information on qualifications required for participation. In the form, applicants are required to include a short audio message answering a question in English.

Successful graduates interested in knowing more about available opportunities at TaskUs may visit the company’s career page. Further interviews and assessments will be conducted.

The TaskUs Language Academy is organized together with the local government and Invest Pacific.

TaskUs’s free virtual language program has established industry professionals as instructors.

A growing service industry

According to Alejandro Ossa, Executive Director of Invest Pacific, job opportunities have been opening up to the English-proficient population of Cali owing to the growth of outsourcing operations.

“We are very happy to see the commitment of companies like TaskUs in promoting these free spaces to help improve the bilingual skills of the local community in Cali, while giving them the opportunity to access a job in an industry that has been growing by leaps and bounds. We will continue supporting these projects and working in synergy with the institutions of our region so that more citizens can continue to grow in the outsourcing sector and technological operations,” said Ossa.

According to Ossa, Cali has a digital economy cluster made up of more than 735 companies, including software development, information technology outsourcing, and service outsourcing companies. For these companies, the most relevant factors that have influenced the development and success of their operations, especially in recent years, have been their command of English, the workplace culture, and the huge amount of talent available in the region.

María Fernanda Santa, Secretary of Economic Development of Cali, also said, “We are seeing a lot of interest from companies in Cali, generating more job opportunities for Caleños. This is a magnificent opportunity to contribute to the economic and social recovery of the city. We are at a key moment to continue promoting these types of joint initiatives and to contribute to the positioning of Cali as a smart, technological, and welcoming city.”
